Ciara Meagher is a textile artist living in Waterford with her husband and their five children. Homeschooling and making art alongside her children are a central part of her daily life, and these shared routines naturally shape the direction of her work. Her practice grows from the everyday experiences of motherhood—the moments of closeness, the constant demands, the fatigue, and the deep connections formed through care.
Ciara works with soft, tactile materials such as felt, wool, and textiles. She is drawn to processes like felting, weaving, and embroidery because they are practically accessible to the rhythms of family life. These methods give her space to think, to notice, and to process emotions that can be difficult to express in words. Through her materials, she reflects the reality of motherhood: its warmth, its pressures, and the balance that must always be found between giving to others and holding space for oneself. Her work often begins with small observations—quiet moments found when her children are working beside her, or the everyday negotiations that shape family life.
Ciara recently collaborated with her children to form the My Bodies Collective, a project that allowed them to create and explore how making together strengthens their relationship. Through her textiles, Ciara aims to honour the overlooked, intimate moments of motherhood, revealing their depth, their honesty, and their lasting impact.
